WJE Announces Vocal Jazz Auditions

Wyoming All State Vocal Jazz Audition deadline is Dec. 11th at midnight.  Special guest artist clinician is Brennan Baglio, the new vocal director at Northwest College. Besides teaching and making a career as a studio musician, he is also the tour manager and Baritone for Groove for Thought. Check them out on Youtube or  iTunes. His bio is below and is something that’s worth sharing with your students. What a great opportunity to work with such a stellar musician. This year’s vocal jazz group will be opening for the Tommy Dorsey band at the Kinser Jazz Festival February 8th and 9th.  It’s sure to be a great concert and expereince!

AAEAAQAAAAAAAAWsAAAAJDc1NDJiMWNjLWNmNDAtNDBlOC1iM2I0LWRiOTk1MzE2MDEwYgBrennan Baglio is the Director of Choirs at Northwest College in Powell, Wyoming, where he directs the Studio Singers, Collegiate Chorale, and teaches second year music theory and aural skills classes.  Brennan is a native of the Seattle area and previously taught choir, piano, voice, and music technology courses at Bellevue College.  Brennan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Masters of Music in Choral Conducting, both from Central Washington University.

Brennan is the baritone and tour manager in the professional vocal jazz septet Groove For Thought.  With Groove For Thought, he has had the opportunity to perform on NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” open for Jay Leno, and perform throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.  Groove For Thought performed at the 2014 Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference in Dallas, TX, has been asked to perform at the 2016 JEN Conference in Louisville, KY, and has performed at American Choral Directors Association Conferences, the Polyfolia World Choral Symposium, the Europa Cantat Festival, the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the University of Northern Colorado/Greeley Jazz Festival, the Gold Company Invitational, and many other Jazz and Choral Festivals throughout the U.S. and abroad.  Groove For Thought is a previous winner of the Harmony Sweepstakes Competition and has won numerous Contemporary A Cappella Society awards in recent years.

As a clinician and adjudicator, Brennan has been asked to present at the Jazz Education Network Conference, Washington Music Educators Association Conference, and Utah Music Educators Association Conference.  He has also been asked to direct the North Big Horn Basin Honor Choir and Wyoming All-State Jazz Choir, and has adjudicated festivals throughout the United States including the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, Northern Arizona University Jazz & Madrigal Festival, Tiffin Pro Music Festival, Oceanside Jazz Festival, Boise State Vocal Jazz Festival, DeMiero Jazz Festival, and Bellevue College Jazz Festival.

In addition to teaching and performing, Brennan maintains a busy schedule as a studio singer, producer and mix engineer, and arranger.  He enjoys arranging for his own ensembles, has published several of his arrangements, and has sung on radio jingles, commercials, and other vocal projects.  Brennan also assists in producing and mixing all Groove For Thought videos and recordings.
